Gives a (man) woman confidence to holler in the mountains.-Johnny "Unsinkable Molly Brown."
Paula Dimitry
Hi guys!! Having a blast! We are going through our gear and getting ready to leave. This whole area is absolutely gorgeous! We could see Mt. Shasta as we were driving in to Redding. Peggy and I go a little nervous at first but we are excited to go now. We will only be hiking about 3 hours today so it won't be too bad. I love you all and wish you were here with me. Take care of my baby for me!!
Margo Chisholm
Root and rummage! Root and rummage! Root and rummage! Organizing gear in Redding: food, tents, clothes, climbing boots everywhere! The ritual before any climb. We are a fabulous group: 6 wonderful women and Paul, our cameraman, who is unflappably calm in the midst of all this estrogen. What a gift to be climbing with so many women after my almost-all-male-climber teams of the past. Ranging in experience from first time ever with a backpack on to lots of climbs, we have already formed the bond that is one of my favorite things about being "out".
We leave shortly for the mountain itself, then a hike to Horse Camp, about 4 miles and 2,000 vertical feet. A chance for the newbies to get used to their packs and the weight. I am in heaven! And the oldest on the trip. Which is something I love. We range in age from 28 to my 57, with wonderfully diverse life experiences. Conversation will be a big part of this trip. Thanks to all for sharing in my excitement.
Stephanie, we fill your spirit with us. Blessing to you and your mom.

We're almost there! Sorting out gear to get ready to start our hike VERY soon. Can't wait to get on the mountain! It looks absolutely beautiful (and snowy) from down here.
This will certainly be an unforgettable experience, not just for Mt Shasta, but more so for this very unique group of women we're doing the climb with. This will be a blast!
HOLA ARGENTINA!! Viejos, chicos, ya casi estamos' Besos Vero

Mayday! Mayday! - Abandon Ship!
Sometimes the hardest part of the climb is before you take the first actual step.
No, seriously, it's all good. Honored to be here.
What could possibly go wrong?

Monday, July 18, 7:45 a.m.-Horse Camp.
We are having technical difficulties with Verizon so these updates will sadly be short and pithy from here on out.
TO Stephanie: -we all miss you and hope that things are going better for your mom.
Christine Clayburg- It is a beautiful sunny morning on Mt. Shasta. We finally got our equipment squared away and hit the trail from Bunny Flat trailhead about 4:30 p.m. yesterday. We arrived at Horse Camp with heavy packs at 6 p.m. and immediately began setting up tents and fixing dinner. We will leave some gear and food here for our descent. Everyone is doing very well. Finally crawled off to bed about 11 p.m. In spite of fatigue, we were having too much fun to sleep. What a gorgeous moonlit mountain. Heading out soon for Helen Lake base camp.
Kate Bauer - I was designated cook for tonight. We had soup followed by an entree of chicken and rice. Everyone had compliments for the chef. I can boil a mean cup of water! Last night an almost full moon rose about 9 p.m. It bathed the summit looming over 6000 feet above us in moonlight. What a sight. I am beginning to understand why people climb mountains.
Margo Chisolm-I tried to sleep outside last night. In the middle of the night a friendly Sasquatch told me to move inside. I pulled my bag into Christine's tent, waking her. Well, sort of waking her. She doesn't wake up easily. Lots of laughter, singing, good times, good friends, good food. Lots of everything except sleep.
