GEAR LIST
If you've already got some of the gear listed go ahead and make do with it. However, if you need to buy something...follow the recommendations on this list. These items may cost a bit more, but they are well worth the money. Best to buy the right thing the first time! (remember NO COTTON!)
UPPER BODY
Glacier glasses or wraparound glasses with dark lenses and 100% uv protection
Sun shirt (Mt. Hardware Canyon Shirt, also Columbia makes a nice one that is less expensive)
Sports-bra or tank top (no cotton!) (title9sports.com or rei)
4 pairs non-cotton underwear (silk is good)
Lightweight capilene (patagonia or rei or many others)
Midweight Powerstretch layer
Windshirt (Marmot is the one and only on this one!)
Light synthetic jacket or vest (check sierra trading post.com)
Waterproof/Breathable Rainshell (good stuff on go-lite.com)
Waterproof Gloves or mitten shell with a glove liner
A warm hat that covers ears (and is easy to sleep in)
Sunhat or cap
LOWER BODY
1 pair lightweight quik-dry hiking pants (patagonia continental pant is THE best)
1 pair powerstretch leggings (patagonia or mt hardwear)
rain pants with full side zips (marmot makes a good pair for about $60)
3 pairs underwear
3 pairs hiking socks (smartwool in different colors)
3 liner socks (smartwool or ultimax)
hiking boots
smartfeet insoles
gaiters
FOOD/WATER
2 water bottles (nalgene is nice but anything will work)
hydration bladder or a 3rd water bottle
iodine tablets
insulated mug (16oz )
big plastic spoon
2-3 cup tupperware bowl with lid
Headlamp (Petzl tikka or zipka) with set extra batteries
2 very small tubes of NEW high SPF sunblock (sunblock looses it's effectiveness after 6 months)
lip balm spf 15+
ziplock with toilet paper and small hand sanitizer
MISC
Watch
Small compass/whistle that you can attach to a zipper
Smaller summit pack-(optional...most packs have a detachable fanny pack)
3 light stuff sacks in different colors and sizes
3 plastic garbage disposal bags
packet of wet wipes (10 or so)
small washcloth or smart towl(optional)
camera (disposables work great when it's cold)
a tiny mascot... flag, beanie baby... whatever... for the summit
small notepad/pen/pencil
crazy creek chair (optional)
trekking poles (optional)
